Old Lutheran Quote of the Day

The wrath of God looks quite different when viewed in combination with God's love. -- Henry Hamann, *On Being a Christian* p. 50.

I like this, Fr. Weedon. St. Maximos the Confessor wrote in similar terms in his 3rd Century.

He says: "When wrath takes the form of God allowing hte demons to attack an arrogant intellect through the passions, it is a means of deliverance. For through suffering these shameful attacks the person that boasts of his virtues is enaled to learn who is hte giver of thse vritues. Othersiwe, he will be stripped of those things that are not in fact his, though he regarded them as such, forgetting that he had received them as a gift."

St. Maximos the Confessor is absolute gold. When choosing my patron saint, it was between him and St. John Damascene. St. John won out, but they are both tireless interecessors and pillars of the wisdom which Christ bestows on His.

Just thought I'd share.
