Patristic Quote of the Day

Consider carefully, brothers, what and how great is the blindness of the unbelievers, which says that Christ was not able to be born of a virgin, and in this heavenly birth looks for an ordinary human occurrence, and the creature puts God on trial by using laws which pertain to the created order. And so let human impiety bring nothing up for discussion about the Nativity of Him who was compelled out of piety to be born for the human being. That the Son of Man and of God humbled himself in the flesh, that a virgin conceives, gives birth and remains a virgin after the birth, derives from the power of heaven in all its mystery, and not from the order of our mortal nature. -- St. Peter Chrysologus, Sermon 148a, Par. 3
