New Lutheran Quote of the Day

We, however, drink the most holy blood of Christ, the blood that atoned for our sins, frees us from the stain of sin, protects us from the powers of darkness, fills us with the Holy Spirit, transfuses us with the divine life of Christ. That meal is our theophany, the appearance of the triune God among us for our salvation. -- John Kleinig, *Grace Upon Grace* p. 282

When I read things like that, I just want to give up trying to write.

What a wonderful gift Dr. Kleinig has given the Church with this book.

When we first spoke about him doing this book he told me this book was the culmination of everything he has been working on and thinking on in this area of study, and his true passion.

The first time I read it, my jaw dropped to the floor. I was, and still am, stunned by it.

My mother has now read this book..get this...three times.

This is a splendid quote, Fr. Weedon. Thank you for sharing it. One thought: the blood of Christ as divine transfusion reminds me of Cardinal Newman's translation of the Anima Christi, which instead of the more literal "Blood of Christ, inebriate me," has this, "Blood of Christ, fill all my veins." I find this line by Newman to be such a rich thought that it often leads me to use Newman's version almost as often as I use the more common one.

Soon to be Father Deacon,

What a beautiful thought from Newman! Thanks for sharing that. I can see how that would stick once it was once read.
