From Noontime Prayer

O Lord, have mercy upon us.
O Christ, have mercy upon us.
O Lord, have mercy upon us.

Blessed Lord Jesus Christ, at this hour You hung upon the cross, stretching out Your loving arms to embrace the world in Your death. Grant that all people of the earth may look to You and see their salvation; for Your mercy's sake we pray. Amen.

Indeed a very beautiful prayer for noontime. I often use this order for prayer along with the litany at noon.

Jim, wait till you hear the beautiful recording of the Litany on the new Treasury Liturgies CD from CPH!

I can't wait for that! I think this will make it even easier for individuals and families to use this wonderful tool in their devotional lives.

Is this prayer a very abbreviated prayer of St. Basil the Great which is said at 6th hour (noon)? If so, you should really use the full one. Like any prayer of St. Basil, it is a gem!

Chris,

I don't think it was derived from it, but there is certainly commonality of thought - which one would expect as we bow before the Cross at the hour in which our Lord was upon it, accomplishing our salvation "triumphing over the source and power of darkness."
