TLSB

I was privileged to receive a review DVD copy of The Lutheran Study Bible. My admiration only grows. You know how so many Study Bibles have the tiresome habit of addressing questions you're not asking and ignoring the real difficulties of the texts? I don't think anyone will accuse TLSB of that! And so many resources included! I think I'll be exploring the thing till the day I die and I doubt that I'll have come to the end of the goodies by then. Being a bit of a Patristics buff myself, I confess that the insights of the Fathers scattered throughout the notes is a huge and welcome feature. It's so odd: with Treasury I know I have the prayer book I'll use for the rest of my life; and now comes along THE Bible that will set all the others aside. I've ordered my copies already - have you? Best get on it! I am pretty sure that this thing is going to go like my momma's patty-cakes (and they disappeared about as fast as she served them).

Is it OK to be jealous of you?? :D

As for not exhausting the possibilities in the Bible for the rest of your life, that is quite possibly true. From the document: "Top Twelve Reasons to Buy TLSB" we read:

The Lutheran Study Bible has over 31,000 concordance entries, helping you locate important topics and issues throughout the Bible. If you check one reference a day, the fun won’t end for 84 years!

Being a bit of a Patristics buff myself,

For which the readers of your blog are very grateful -- we learn so much on this topic here!

I just can't make up my mind as to whether I want a thumb-index TLSB or regular one!!

Arggghh!

Christine

Sounds like a very handy feature, though.

William,
I am really intrigued by all of the excitement and overwhelming positive responses (and overwhelming number of pre-orders) to a study bible. Personally, I can't think of why I would need or want a study Bible.

Why do you think there is such a response to this book? What need do you think it is satisfying?

Bryce,

There is always a hunger in God's people to know and understand his Word ever more deeply. Any tool that assists in that they welcome with joy - and when a tool is as multifaceted as TLSB, well, it gets lovers of God's Word excited!

"For why?" Maybe "footnotes and cross references all written by Lutherans"?

If there are really "84 years" worth of references, I really had better order "Large Print" (which isn't that large, PTM) for everyone down to the last confirmand in the family.

Helen:

Two things:

(1) We are referring to the larger print edition as "larger" not "large." I'm not aware of any comprehensive study Bible that is "large print" as I would understand it: in 12 or 14 pt. type.

(2) We are providing full page magnifying sheets for those who desire a true "large print" experience with The Lutheran Study Bible. You can order one here:

Thank you, Pr. McCain!
I was looking for that magnifier, and got "no results" under the names I could think of.

I've looked at your page comparisons and I will remember to use "larger" print. :)

Now, if you would be specific about weight of the two hard cover volumes to answer the question of a friend I am trying to "sell" TLSB to, it would be helpful, also.

I suppose she should get leather, if she's weight conscious?
