Old Lutheran Quote of the Day

To be sure, in our rebirth and renewal the old tree and its fruits are cut down; but, nonetheless, the evil roots remain within us that constantly pour forth with wicked lusts and try to grow; and this is the sin that continually clings to us (Heb. 12:1). This is why the saints confess that if the Lord God should mark many sins to their account, that they could not survive God's judgment, and that they must plead for forgiveness of sins. -- Blessed Johann Gerhard, *Postilla* II:188
