Just have to say...

...how much I enjoyed Winkel today. The unanimity of the pastors is a joy to behold. "How beautiful and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity." Pastors Walther and Hemenway began the Winkel with an abbreviated version of Divine Service 4 - and quite a fine homily on Revelation 12 by Pr. Walther. After lunch there was good discussion today of the DP's worship theses and our beloved President Emeritus said it so well when he pointed out that practically speaking our unity is in the use of the hymnal. What a wise insight! So many good points were made in the discussion by various folks - I wish we could have recorded the session and provided it to the DPs so that they could hear the conversation these theses are bringing forth - both as to their strengths and their weaknesses. Pr. Schuessler pointed out the blessing that is ours in our hymnal: "We have a great hymnal. Why not use it?" Why not indeed.

Pardon my ignorance, but what are you referring to when you say "Winkel"?

It's a term used in the card game 500. Ex. "I winkel hearts." "Winkel no trump" means "I have the joker."

Winkel is the German word for corner. For some reason it's the word we use to describe the meeting of Circuit pastors. We don't go to the meeting of circuit pastors. We go to Winkel. :)

Winkel was also the name of the patch sewn on prisoners' clothes in concentration camps in Nazi Germany to classify them.

Wonder when our "LCMS is too German" moaners will get a hold of that?

Not sure what unanimity there is beyond using the same book, when the book itself is not unanimity but results in congregations with different calendars, readings, services etc. just all from the same book.
