Patristic Quote of the Day

Punish me, O Lord, according to Thy compassion, but do not deliver me into the hands of the annihilator.  -- St. Ephraim the Syrian, A Spiritual Psalter #68

I am such a huge fan of St. Ephraim as well. Glad to see you posting his quotes. His gift of poetry is amazing. I highly recommend his "Homily on Our Lord" if you have not read it. The language he uses to describe Christ's triumphal entry into Sheol/Hades and freeing the righteous saints is so vivid. He talks about how Christ is the medicine of life and that Sheol/Hades was made sick by the medicine and vomited Him out with all the Righteous Dead of the Old Testament. He also speaks about how the Cross of Christ is the wooden bridge He uses to bring the souls out of Hades. I just love the poetic license the Fathers used in describing so many aspects of the Faith.
