New Lutheran Quote of the Day

It must be clear to us that only a church that is free of illusions in what it proclaims can today speak the Gospel to a disillusioned world - the pure, that is, the real Gospel and not a gospel that men have fashioned for themselves. -- Hermann Sasse, *We Confess:  Jesus Christ* p. 38.

That is a powerful assessment of what is the Church's mission. As it has been, but even more so in these last days, man attempts to frame and shape the Gospel by human wisdom rather than divine wisdom because man will do everything within his power to save himself by his own assessment of what he needs to saved from.

The Gospel is only Good News to
someone who admits he or she is
a sinner who needs a Savior.
Otherwise, it is foolishness to those
who think they can save themselves
by their good behavior.
