I still have to work out what necessary hoops we would have to jump through in order to bind such a book (permissions, etc.) I am now into the Gospel of St. Luke.
If I say so myself, I am pretty pleased with what I have got so far, and hope that it will be reproduceable.
While it is ESV, I have included verses omitted from the standard ESV text, marking them with italics. Reasings with liturgical significance I have set off with a different formatting (e.g., Beatitudes, Lord's Prayer, Words of Institution, Magnificat, etc.). The Passion accounts in each of the Gospels will be in red letters. The Name Jesus and title Christ are slightly raised, captitalized and bracketed with the cross. I'm trying to format it so that it would fit a Gospel Book cover from Almy [Book 13 ¾ x 9 ¾] x1 ¼; Cover 14 3/8 x 10 x 1 ¾]. The pages are double-columned, Goudy Old Style font (size 14). It is fomatted with each verse indented, rather than by paragraph. So far, without the Gospel of John, and with Luke only partially formatted, it is already 192 pages. It might end up being too big for the cover mentioned above.
I don't know how this works, but if CPH would like to take over, or would be interested in encouraging me to pursue this, that would be fine with me. Our pastor would like it to match the lectionary, or at least be ESV. Alas, ESV does not produce a Gospel-only book. What you have suggested, Rev. Weedon, is exactly what we have been looking for. I agree that it shouldn't be that difficult to produce. My questions to CPH regarding this have apparently fallen on deaf ears. Perhaps your post here will prod the issue further! ;-)Erich Heidenreich, DDShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12819223688598369327noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7291232.post-28537329110545672942008-07-27T20:54:00.000-05:002008-07-27T20:54:00.000-05:00That, or have your assistants start lifting weight...That, or have your assistants start lifting weights so they can hold the Bible. ;)Dan @ Necessary Roughnesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14815354600299927976noreply@blogger.com
