As we drove to the Winkel today in Granite City, IL, vicar and I noticed the first greening of spring. And, as my son could tell you, whenever I notice that I HAVE to recite Robert Frost:
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf,
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day
Nothing gold can stay.
Y'all are having greening, we just got dumped on with 8 inches of snow. Fun!

Now, Harry, generally I LOVE snow, but NOT in March! March is for other enjoyments!
ReplyDeleteJason,
ReplyDeleteActually, give me a NC Spring anyday! I still remember the beautiful day my youngest was born. My wife and I walked all around the neighborhood to help with labor. The dogwoods were in bloom, the air was warm and the breeze gentle, the flowers were everwhere. I love NC in the springtime. But who are we kidding? ANYPLACE is great when the greening starts. Isn't it amazing how it reaches down deep and fills you with a joy inexplicable?
There should have been a subtle sarcasm in my comment, but it didn't come across in typing. Being the suth'na that I am, snow really makes me feel out of place, especially in March.
