Anastasia tagged me for this one. It goes like this:
The rules are:
Pick up the nearest book of 123 pages or more. (No cheating!)
Find Page 123.
Find the first 5 sentences.
Post the next 3 sentences.
Tag 5 people.
The nearest book happened to be *Ragman and Other Cries of Faith* (from which I'd selected a story this a.m. to share with the chapel) by Walter Wangerin, Jr.
On page 123 we're in the middle of his wedding sermon for his brother Gregory.
And here are the next three sentences after the first five:
I smile, I say. "That's only the game-plan, but half of the truth, and none of the power. Let me finish your sentences for you."
And who to tag?
Pastor Paul McCain. Pastor Tim May. Pastor Lehmann, Dan and Maria
You just had to get me to actually post something on my blog, didn't you?
ReplyDeleteWell SOMEONE had to do something! I didn't want you to reach April and say: "I didn't post for a whole year!" I did that, actually.
ReplyDeleteHeh. Since I don't have that problem I'll leave the results here, which you may find interesting. There is a high probability you might guess this book:
ReplyDeleteEternity belongs to the triune God, to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It belongs to the one who "is the one blessed and only powerful, the King of all kings and Lord of all lords, who alone as immortality, who dwells there in light where no one can come, which no man has seen nor can see " (1 Timothy 6:15-16) (Hermann Sasse, 1895-1976)
Pray: O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known today that You are God in all the world and that I am Your servant and act at your command.
And of course the prayer continues:
Answer me, O Lord, answer me, so those around me will know that You O Lord, are God, and that You are turning their hearts back again in repentance and faith: through Jesus Christ, Amen. (from I Kings 18:36-37)
Dan
(I know you didn't tag me, but couldn't help myself)
ReplyDeletethe closest book to my hand was LSB... which doesn't exactly have a page 123. so, going with Psalm 123, I found that it contained five sentences exactly (if you count the Gloria Patri).
so I guess the next three sentences would be the "Amen." from the Gloria Patri, followed by Psalm 124:1-6 (verses 1-5 are one sentence).
Amen.
If it had not been the LORD who was on our side—
let Israel now say—
if it had not been the LORD who was on our side
when people rose up against us,
then they would have swallowed us up alive,
when their anger was kindled against us;
then the flood would have swept us away,
the torrent would have gone over us;
then over us would have gone
the raging waters.
Blessed be the LORD,
who has not given us
as prey to their teeth!
hmmm.. I just noticed... technically, the closest to my hand was the TLH that my LW and LSB were stacked upon... and page 123 is where the Psalms begin. Psalm 1 takes up five sentences, so you get Psalm 2:
Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision.
methinks that makes a very nice combination... The Lord destroys His enemies, but by His grace we are not amongst them for He is on our side
