You might find
Lenten and Easter homilies by moi that CPH has offered as part of a packet with numerous other Lenten/Easter helps to be of use. Unless I miss my guess, Asburry did the Bible Studies and Stuckwisch the worship helps. Cwirla wrote companion volume for daily devotions.
Just thought you'd try to make a last minute Christmas gift suggestion? Or is this just shameless self-promotion?
ReplyDeleteEither way, here's wishing you a Blessed Nativity to you and yours, Fr. Weedon. We'll be back to comment in the new year.
Utterly shameless self-promotion - and recommendation of a pretty nifty resource. It just came in the mail today. The homilies I did are but one piece of a complete package that pastors might find useful for Lenten planning around that great hymn "O Sacred Head."
ReplyDeleteAND a blessed Nativity feast to you, too, Christopher! "Christ is born! Glorify Him!"
So, CPH is selling sermons that you post on the internet for free?
ReplyDeleteThe last time the church was selling something that was actually free they were paying off the Fuggers for a building loan.
Please don't tell me this has something to do with the LCEF and the "International Center." ;-)
Reverend Dean,
ReplyDeleteThe sermons are but part of the package. Some Bible Study resources, worship suggestions for using either Vespers or Divine Service for midweeks, and the daily devotional etc. These will NOT be appearing on the internet, because CPH owns them (they were written for them). But they come on a disk as well, and pastors can thus use whatever parts of the series they find helpful or dump the entirety and come up with their own. Still, I love Dr. Gard's whole scheme of holding the thing together with O Sacred Head.
What I can't handle is the guilt of all this. Planning for Lent and Easter? Hah! The only reason I'm at your site is to look for your thoughts on Athanasius' famous quote on the incarnation, because on 12/23, at 11:38 p.m., I'm still working on tomorrow's sermon.
ReplyDeleteIt is an awesome resource for Lent/Holy Week, and....along with this resource is coming a book titled, "He Was Crucified" which is a stunning deeply devotional journey with our Lord through the events of His passion.

Only Weedon would be planning ahead for Lent when we haven't had the twelve days of Christmas yet.
ReplyDeleteNicht wahr! I don't have to prepare for Lent; I'm done with it (at least the midweeks and holy week). Sweet!!!
ReplyDeleteThat level of advance planning is sickening. May some of that discipline rub off on me!
ReplyDeleteHey - I just received my gratis copies of Sacred Head Now Wounded. Looks good, if I do say so myself. I don't do sermon series in Lent, but I think I'll buy a bunch of the devo books at 40% discount and give 'em out to the congregation. CPH did a nice job putting all this together.
Yes, the Bible studies in this fine resource are from my hand. I hope they can be helpful and edifying. (And if any problematic theology inadvertently came through, just remember the studies belong to CPH now. :-)
