Upon the Inauguration

For Barack, our President, for all public servants, for the government and all who protect us, that they may be upheld and strengthened in every good deed, let us pray to the Lord:

Lord, have mercy!

For those who work to bring peace, justice, health and protection in this and every place, let us pray to the Lord:

Lord, have mercy!

[Litany for Evening Prayer, LSB, p. 250]

  2. Lord, have mercy.

And I might want to chant that with Divine Service 2. That sounds particularly mournful. :)

  3. It would also be appropriate to pray that God breaks his heart of stone in regards to abortion.

  4. Jon,

The prayer that was provided for the Prayer of the Church in the LCMS included last Sunday the following petition:

Heavenly Father, You hold in Your hand all human might. Remember those who are entrusted with civil authority, especially our new President. Grant them all to exercise this public trust in such a way that the weak and helpless, especially the unborn, are protected, and that our common life conforms to Your will. Lord, in Your mercy,
    C hear our prayer.

  5. In that petition, Rev. Weedon, our pastor also included "the elderly and infirm" or something to that effect. While perhaps not as pressing currently, there is a visible trend towards denial of life to living human beings outside the womb as well.
