We're planning a trip down to Sikeston, Missouri for lunch at Lambert's Cafe (can you go there and NOT eat the thrown rolls???) on Friday and then do some touring around Charleston (their Azalea/Dogwood festival is in full swing) and back home for an evening of cards with Randy and Rachel, at which the men will no doubt continue their winning streak (at least we most devoutly hope so).
"Thrown Rolls"???
ReplyDeleteNatives from Missourah call 'em "throwed rolls"...just to be precise! ;)
Sounds like it will be a nice day.
Dixie,
ReplyDeleteI just COULDN'T write that.
They are throwed rolls.
ReplyDeleteIf you go there and don't eat them, then your punishment in hell will be to be pelted by them for all eternity, right out of the oven, smelling fantastic. And never get to eat a crumb...
I'm a former English teacher and I don't think I could have written "thrown rolls." :-)
ReplyDeleteI'll be interested to hear how your visit to Lambert's goes. For years we have stopped there on our trips to and from Texas. But the last time we did we were terribly disappointed--the restaurant was not clean and the service was poor, so much so that after sat down we ended up getting up from the table and leaving. My husband heard from relatives in Tennessee that the son of the founder died several years ago and ownership/management passed on to the the grandchildren, who have apparently farmed out the day-to-day running of the restaurant. Did you know they changed locations several years ago, also? The new restaraunt is even larger than the old one. I can't help wondering if that's part of the problem. On the other hand, maybe ours was an isolated incident. I'll be interested to hear what sort of dining experience you have there!
if you feel like taking the long way down so you can see your very beautiful goddaughter (not just my opinion - people tell us this all the time), give us a call.
ReplyDeleteactually, we might be in the metro east table shopping ("Leistico - table for 8").
oh fun!
ReplyDeleteI love it!
but...you really do need to eat the throwed rolls.
That's where I got paid to eat fried okra. disgusting. I'm not doing that AGAIN!
I thoroughly enjoy that they give you the proper amount of water too. I still needed a refill though...but not nearly as soon!
I live less than an hour west of Sikeston but I don't think I've been to Lamberts in twenty years. We used to road-trip down to Lamberts from the university a half an hour north in Cape Girardeau.
ReplyDeleteStop by Concordia Lutheran Church in Sikeston and say hello to Pastor Wollenburg.
