So Yesterday...

...was so beautiful that after finishing home-bound communions, I asked Cindi if she wanted to go for a run. She's the runner, not I. But I was itching to enjoy the fall-like weather yesterday, so off we went. We ran down to Hamel and back, just shy of 5 miles. This morning, I looked outside and thought, I can't let this chance go by either, so after tending to a few things, I got on my running shoes and headed off to Hamel again. I added a bit more to hit five miles - going up toward Worden a ways before turning toward home.

It's amazing to me how by the end I don't feel worn out and tired, but ready to go some more. One of these days when I have the time, I'm going to see if I can do the circuit twice.

It's been a year since Pr. Hall's resolution to start exercising again got me off my duff. It's been a GREAT year for me that way. I know I am more fit than I've ever been in my whole life. And I flat out enjoy the working out. What makes it super nice is being married to another fitness fiend. Who knows? Maybe we'll end up running again later this afternoon.

    My wife is a runner and loves to run with people, she is training for a half-marathon, perhaps Chicago half-marathon.
    I am a work-out fiend. I try to stick to a Crossfit regiment, as time and energy allow. It is a cross, as its name implies, between Military and Olympic fitness training. While in St. Louis I had a group of friends that I would "fit" with, but here, alas, no one yet. This is more an informative comment, if you would like another running partner please let me know, or my wife, and if you ever get a hankering for some Push-Ups, Pull-ups, or Kettle Bell Swings, let me know.

    I knew I liked you! :) We should go for a run one of these beautiful fall days, BUT remember that you're running with an old dude. Cin and I ran that five miles in an HOUR. We'll have to compare schedules on Wednesday and see what works out.

  3. I'd love to find a fellow brother as sort of an exercise buddy, someone to keep me on track. It's good that your wife can be that for you!

  4. I have just finished a week of going through "Wii Active" on the Wii, and I am keeping it up good and well. I had lost around 10 lbs since lent through Summer just on diet, now maybe I can get things going better. Keep up the good work on that side of Missouri and I'll try to keep it up on this side.

    it looks like you just started a Lutheran running club... wouldn't it be nice if it would catch everywhere? Run the race and pray for grace: what a great combination to make us fit in body and soul!
    Btw, I am also running around the 5 mile mark, down from 10km after vacations.

  6. Run the race and pray for grace. Beautiful. You know, this a.m. as I ran, I recited the Small Catechism to myself, sang through one of the Divine Services, recited the Books of the Bible, and sundry other things. It's amazing how the distance flies by when your mind is occupied with such things. I find that I STILL stumble at the long list of daily bread (after all these years!).

    You and your bride were and have been an inspiration to me as well.

    Wheni missed my goal of "fabulously fit at 50" and instead found myself "fabulously fat at 50", I was initially tempted to berate myself, give up and just resign myself to a life of fatness and being unfit and such.

    My Dr. scared me last year with news about high blood pressure, high blood sugar etc...

    I have now (as of this morning) lost 80 lbs from my high of 286!!!

    Last night i ran 3 miles in just under 32 mins or thereabouts... the FIRST time I have run (without stopping to walk) in 20 years or more... when i left the Navy : )

    I routinely exercise 40 - 50 mins daily... doing interval workouts, biking, brisk walking, jogging etc... and i feel better than I have in 20 years.

    I weigh less then I did when I got out of the Navy, less then i did when I met my wife, less than when I got married : ) When I reach my goal weight, I will weight what I weighed when I graduated HS.

    Last night was the first time in 20 years that i ENJOYED running : )

    I now know why i felt so tired, run down and "cruddy" all the time : ) My daughter weighs 75 lbs... when I want a reminder of what it felt like to be 80 lbs heavier, I just pick her up and carry her around for 5 minutes! MAN... no wonder i hurt all over before, and could never catch my breath... i was carrying my daughter around on my back everywhere 24 x 7 : )

    I have begun to do 20 mile bike rides every weekend, and i did a 6 mile brisk walk / partial jog last weekend...

    I am on track to be at 185 by my 51st bday : ) So i think my new goal of "fabulously fit at 51" is within sight!

    I amm at least in as good of shape as I have been at any point in the lasst 20 years... if not in as good a shape as I was most of my years in the Navy.

    I can fit into my Navy uniform again : )
