I have definitely decided...

...that plunking notes for the organ tuner is mind numbing.

  1. Oh! I used to do that for two of the big organs in Fort Wayne - the Sem and St. Paul's downtown. One of my best friends was the tuner. Not just my mind - hours of sitting on the organ bench numbed other things as well. And the trumpets blaring in my ears could be painful as well. I comforted myself that I wasn't the one climbing up to the upper levels of the chapel and squeezing into tight spaces. We always had fun tho, and I liked to leave amusing notes for Kantor Resch....if I were closer, I'd plunk the notes for you for old times sake!

  2. Designated Knitter - you're supposed to wear ear protection when tuning the trumpets at St. Paul's. Seriously. The en chamade there, played in an empty building, is loud enough to cause ear damage. (With the congregation there to absorb the sound, it's fine.) I've held keys at St. Paul's - I know!

Pr. Weedon, you're SUPPOSED to prop a magazine on the music desk while holding keys. Something light to read, like a food mag. Too deep of a reading material choice and you don't hear the tech yelling "NEXT!"

  3. Good point - bring something to read. I must confess that what I really wanted was another cup of coffee. It was wonderful, though, to look down on the nave and chancel from up in the balcony. I am blessed to serve in a downright beautiful building that proclaims the good news by the art in it.

  4. Our tuner sends two guys to the church, so there is no need to provide a plunker.

I am wondering if one guy and a volunteer who can find a C# will suffice? Perhaps I have found a budget-saving opportunity.

Our trumpet isn't that loud, so there would be less of an issue there.
