One of the Frustrations of LSB

is that it is an incomplete work. At numerous points through the Altar Book we are referred to LSB Desk Edition for further information. Only problem is that it doesn't exist (yet), which leaves a number of questions hanging. It is the last piece of LSB that is really necessary (far more important than a book detailing the history of the hymns!). I hope it shows up soon. We need it.

    So, what are some of these pressing questions that you have? I am at what the Anglicans might have called a rather "Low Church" congregation. . . moving on up slightly, but altar book and hymn book things have been more than enough for that direct so far.

    I heartily agree. I have found Lutheran Worship, History and Practice and Luther Reed's The Lutheran Liturgy to answer almost all questions.

    Speaking of incomplete...the Litany may be chanted, but the music is in the altar book. All congregants bring their altar books to church with them, right?

    LSBuilder has the ability to add the music for the litany to a congregational bulletin.

    Pressing, who said anything about pressing? I said "we need it" and the reason we need it is because the book has been out for three years and that is time for habits to have been formed. If the Desk Edition contains more rubrical info - which I believe it will - we might find ourselves relearning (and reteaching our parishes) where specific guidance wasn't given and we did our own thing.

    Nothing earth-shattering here, but it would be great to know, for instance, WHERE the prayer following the Nunc Dimittis is to be led in the funeral rite. Does the pastor stay by the head of the casket? Does he return to the altar? The movement TO the casket is specified, but what you're supposed to do afterwards isn't indicated at all. That's the sort of help I think the Desk Edition was intended to provide.

    Seriously...I know Dr. Paul Grime is working on it, but I do not have an ETA. You could, of course, pester Dr. Grime. I'm sure he would love to hear from all of you, all at once, a dozen times or so.
