Was this quote from Luther? I do not think guns were developed for another 100 years after Luther.
ReplyDeleteYes, it was from Luther. I was rather surprised by that too.
ReplyDeleteGuns were just coming into normal use at the time of Luther. Luther flourished during the wars of Cortez, for instance, and it is well known the Spanish had guns--though in primitive form.

Wouldn't you know? German were the first to get the matchlock firearm working on the field of battle, already in the early 1400s.

Go figure, the likely invention of firearms is due to the 14th century German friar, Berthold Schwarz.
