of the EWTN Mass for this past Sunday - Advent I. It must have been Lutheran day! The entrance hymn was "Wake, Awake" (thank you, Lutheran pastor and musician Philip Nicolai) and the anthem following the Creed was "E'en So, Lord Jesus" (thank you, Lutheran musician, Kantor and Organist, Paul Manz). LOL.
They may not THINK we're the Church, but they sure do seem to think the Church is speaking through our music. That just might give them pause. At least I hope so.
And honestly, what a wonderful thing - would that EVERY Church delved deeply into the treasure trove of our chorales and musical heritage - for it sings a Gospel peace and joy that is unmistakable. And would that our own Churches realize what they are throwing away when they neglect to sing them!
Kyrie eleison!
Amen.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the Catholics are really desparate for good music ever since they excised the beauty of Gregorian hymns from their repertoire. Too bad for them.
ReplyDeleteWon't make the slightest dent.
ReplyDeleteThe idea is, whatever is well wrought among the separated brethren can be well used, as elements of the true faith exist outside the visible boundaries of the church.
IOW, not a case at all that maybe the Lutherans are on to something, but that elements of the Catholic Faith persist in Lutheranism despite itself and those elements are Catholic.
I am preparing an ouverture for 2010 Houston. Any LCMS blackbirds found watching EWTN will spend a minimum six months handing out Ablaze! bracelets to a year in a district Revitalising Congregations programme!
