We Branched Out Tonight

For this evening's Supper, Cindi baked some pheasants that Dean had shot. Going into dinner with a bit of fear and trepidation, we were all pleasantly surprised at how tasty they were. I made up a broccoli cheese bake to serve alongside. And they'd have tasted even better if Cindi hadn't showed me their feet right before dinner!!!

The only thing to 'fear' with pheasants is biting down on a stray pellet....
    Wish I'd been there! :)

  2. Oh, Helen. I wish you could have been here too. I still hope that SOMEDAY a real visit will be in the cards. Course, I'll be back down your way come July... UGH.

  3. Tastes like chicken....only better!

How did your wife prepare them? Got a couple in my freezer from my last foray into the field. Thankfully, our hunting partner dressed them, so no stray pellets.

  4. Luke,

She baked them in the oven, after dredging them in seasoning. It was very like chicken indeed. Quite tasty. I ended up eating both a breast and a leg.

  5. Save the feet and carcass for making broth! My local ethic market sells chicken feet and I presume it is for that purpose.

I could find anything of pheasant feet but did find these two on chicken feet interesting

I couldn't believe it took 7-1/2 mins to a single foot as though there was a huge amount on meat on it with their hands

These two kicked it up a notch and used chopstick.

I was actually surprised it was not eaten out of necessity but as a delicacy

Branch out by going all out. There was a video even on how to cook the feet.

  7. Larry,

I just don't think I could... As my dear wife mentioned when she showed me the feet, if *I* had had to deal with them, we'd be eating vegetables that night. And it's true. I just can't deal with meat in its original state. Even though I've been on Atkins for years and years, my heart is still with the vegetarians. I love rice and beans! They just don't love me. :(

Sorry to hear that. I think red beans and rice is the perfect summation of everything Creole. I'm guessing food Fear Factor style would be out of the question. lol. I actually wouldn't be able to eat feet either.
