I hate to say it...

...but my wife is a dog and a half. And so is my father-in-law. Jo and I agree: we don't like either one of them. Wait till next week!!!

  3. Oh, they just might have had an absolutely uncalled for and unaccountable streak of good luck in playing Liverpool last night. Just wait till next time...

  4. Long ago and far away, I remember playing a game called 500, popular in that heavily German area, so I learned it along with polkas etc and German itself.

Have you ever heard of it? Is it still around?

  5. Yes, PE! I used to play it with my Croatian Oma...but sadly I don't remember how.

Pastor Weedon, you routinely comment on your poor Liverpool scores...well, in a roundabout way. I don't want to hurt your feelings or anything but you must be pretty bad at that game!

  6. I don't remember either, Dixie. But I sure enjoyed it, I remember that. However, since leaving that area, which was in 1972, I have found hardly anyone who has heard of it.

I'm not a real German you know, I just play one in LCMS.

  7. DIXIE!!!! How rude! ;)
And since it is a game of pure chance, why Cindi should so consistently win is a pure mystery!!!

  8. I play a similar game called Garbage .. it seems like one person consistently wins even though it's a purely random game! But it goes in streaks .. Brian was the winner for three weeks, then Penny started winning every game for the next three weeks. How can it be?

  10. 500 is still alive and well. I learned it from a few Minnesotans. It's also very popular with the (German Lutheran) youth in Australia.

  11. Well that settles it, I'm moving to Oz, I can play 500 and carry out a "critical event" to Schuetz.

500 is the national card game of Australia.

I vaguely remember playing 500 with my German cousins but that was "in another life."

The Danes played cribbage (and joined the Navy). They also had tournaments at family reunions.

I have taught my grandchildren cribbage now to have someone to play with. They started winning before they'd learned all the rules. :(
Oh, well, it makes them willing to play another round. :)
