A Fascinating Post

On the dangers of microwaving food - from a kid's science experiment:

  5. Thanks for the Snopes article references. When I first read this I knew something was up. In explaining what happened the article says "It results in destroyed vitamins, minerals, proteins and generates the new stuff called radiolytic compounds, things that are not found in nature." But there are no vitamins, minerals and proteins in purified water. Chemically purified water is H2O. Nothing there to break down apart from hydrogen and oxygen. Maybe potential peroxide formation, Hydrogen radicals, ozone but the chemistry wasn't explained in the article and that made me very suspicious. I mean, if we could make hydrogen gas and peroxides in our kitchen microwaves...wouldn't there have been telltale periodic explosions by now?

    Pastor Weeden:

Robb Wolf (Paleo Solution) addresses this in his podcast (first 8 minutes).

    Why microwaving is OK:

  7. Well, that's a relief. I was skeptical of the article at first, but believed it when it said other classmates got the same results. Mercy!

  8. From a friend in nursing school regarding another danger of microwaving:

"Burn units have a lot of weird stuff on them. There is one 3 month old whose parents gave him a bottle that they warmed in the microwave. 2 good sucks at most, they said. Horribly burned his esophagus. Now he'll be fed with a peg tube for the rest of his life. He looks perfectly fine when you look at him (other than the peg). Kid's mom isn't even a crackhead (which probably can't be said of most of the burn kids there) - both biologicals live with the kid. A mistake made in the middle of the night in an exhausted moment. I was there when the doctor explained the need he'll have for lifetime esophageal cancer evals - as esophageal burns very much increase the risk, and this kid's esophagus got it bad. The nightmare for them isn't ever going to end."
