Not the best of days...

...started off with having to say good bye to Lauren and Annabelle as they flew back to NC, but poor Lucy seems to have suffered a stroke.  Her back legs drag behind her.  Vet could find no sensation in them she was aware of. We took her back home.  We devised a sling to hold up her rear and as long as we're holding that, she's pretty happy and even explores some outside. But I'm not sure how long she will make it and if the stroke is progressive. She definitely is far worse today than yesterday.  Prayers appreciated for our little pooch.  If He cares for the cattle of Nineveh, surely He cares also for our little four footed companions.

  1. As one who has been there and done that a time or two, I'll be praying for your little Lucy.

  2. Our old dog's back legs stopped working and it turned out she injured the disks in her back. After a lot of steroid injections, a couple of days at the vet, and a month of inactivity in a cage (except to take her outside) she actually recovered.

  3. As a Vet I would suspect spinal disc protrusion - what breed is she?

Although this may require surgery to decompress the spine - some dogs do respond to rest and steroid treatment. radiographs and / or MRI help give a definitive diagnosis.

  4. A local TV news story featured acupuncture for pets. Perhaps worth looking into, depending on the specifics of Lucy's condition.

  5. Hi Pastor Weedon,

Still visiting your fine blog. I'm so sorry to hear about Lucy. I always enjoyed your stories about her day to day antics. I'm with C.S. Lewis who believed that those animal companions who shared our daily lives will be with us in the world to come.

    Sending up prayers for Lucy.

    Christine
