I actually just did the podcast on this verse and noted how modern scholars disagree with all the fathers (including those of the Reformation) and rejoice to see the actor in the Kingdom Parables as Christ: HE’S the one who sells everything to buy the field in which the treasure is hid. He happens to see us as His treasure. Go figure! But joy indeed.
