I suppose Pastors can stop encouraging their people to read the Word.

Now, my friend, you know he didn’t mean that reading the Word wasn’t also an avenue. Luther always overstates: just trace out his long list in the Large Catechism of “greatest treasure.” Whatever he’s extolling at the moment is the whole enchilada. He’d imbibed the way the ancient Hebrews express things!
