A motion was made and seconded, To Request the Restoration of "Issues, Etc." on KFUO AM.
Whereas, The radio program "Issues, Etc." on KFUO AM has been a blessing to many residents of the Central Illinois District LC-MS and other listeners within in the range of KFUO and of the other stations which carry this program in syndication, and on the worldwide web, keeping us abreast of current issues at the intersection of theology and American society, and helping us to respond to these issues in a truly biblical, evangelical, and Lutheran way; and
Whereas, Issues, Etc. has been an uncommonly excellent vehicle for broadcasting some of the best teaching that our LC-MS has to offer to the world, because it has regularly scheduled professors from both seminaries and many of our universities, plus noted experts from the International Center as well as LC-MS parishes and other agencies; and
Whereas, KFUO recently cancelled Issues, Etc., pulled it from the KFUO web site, and dismissed its on-air host, Rev. Todd Wilken, and program director Jeff Schwarz, for undocumented reasons; therefore be it
Resolved, That the Board of Directors of the Central Illinois District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, requests that the LC-MS Board for Communications Services and radio station KFUO AM reinstate Issues, Etc. immediately, so that this programing can continue to respond publicly with biblical and evangelical answers to the ever-changing issues which arise in 21st century society; and be it finally
Resolved, That the Board of Directors of the Central Illinois District of the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod, requests that the LC-MS Board for Communications Services and radio station KFUO AM reinstate the recently dismissed staff, so that they may continue their exemplary work in our behalf on this program. Motion carried.
Signed: Rev. Theodore C. Gall, Central Illinois District Secretary
Ahhhhhhh!!! What does this mean? (see, I'll make a fine Lutheran).
ReplyDeleteA fine start. I am also quite interested in the lever and fulcrum that is, "If Issues, Etc., which cost $250k a year, too expensive to warrant support, why does another initiative warrant a $5 million line of credit?" Financial mismanagement is a left-hand issue.
ReplyDeleteYay!
ReplyDelete(Orthodoxy Hunter, I *love* your avatar!)
Dan,
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion most of this has been a left-handed issue. Which is why most of this rabble rousing will actually work. If this were a right-handed issue, as some of it is, then a call for a return to biblical Christ centered understanding of the Word and an admistration of the sacraments is what is called for.
The real problem I see is that I think the Left-handed issue will be taken care of, while the right-handed issues will not be addressed.
If the sleeping beast that is the LC-MS is awoken by an issue like this, I hope we call for right-handed solutions as opposed to left-handed ones.
Ted, I agree! I mentioned on another Weedon post that nobody took out a $5 million line of credit to perform Word and sacraments.
ReplyDelete(ponders that statement and HOPES it's true) :)
God Bless the Central Illinois Board!! My prayers for MY LCMS are starting to be answered! - Kevin in Indiana
ReplyDeletePass this to your district leadership and your pastors to get this on their agendas!
