...my mom, I mean. She used to sit in the dark. No lights on. If you asked her why, she'd always quote St. John: "Men love darkness more than light because their deeds are evil." But it was said with a certain twinkle in her eye. Truth is, I think she found the dark calm and peaceful. I do too. I'm sitting here in the living room tonight with no lights on (except what's shining on my face from this iPad), sipping a glass of cab, listening to the distant roar of the traffiic on I-55, the song of the frogs from the pond up the road, and the hum of the numerous machines we surround ourselves with. It's peaceful indeed.
