Bright Sadness

Today my my sister-in-law's goddaughter, Barbara, who is sister to Anastasia (sometimes commentator on this blog), entered into the joys that await the blessed dead. She was fortified by the Holy Eucharist and many, many prayers. She leaves behind her husband and children, two sisters and a brother, a mother and father. May Christ bring His comfort to all who loved her so dearly and who mourn her death, and may He grant them to be filled with the sweet peace that Christ's resurrection gives!

I also heard today that Fr. Gregory Hogg's father has also passed from this life. May light perpetual shine on him, as well, and may the Lord bring His comfort all who grieve this passing.

Jesus lives! And now is death
But the gate of life immortal;
This shall calm my trembling breath
When I pass its gloomy portal.
Faith shall cry, as fails each sense,
Jesus is my confidence!

Thank you, william, for this and for the prayers and the love (especially) and thank you for having introduced me, and through me, Barbara, to your wonderful sister-in-law!

It amuses me, now, to recall how hesitant she was to become Barbara's godmother, how unsure she could shoulder such a responsibiity. Turns out that's like Maria Callas doubting she could sing.

P.S. We have a brother, too, Michael. I know I seldom if ever mention him, and I don't really know why. He's a very nice guy, and interesting and a lot of fun.

Sniff, sniff, Anastasia, what beautiful words - not only your wonderful remembrance that made me cry, but your kind words about Deb.

May Barbara's Memory be Eternal.

And Anastasia is right, Mimi, and Deb doesn't realize it. A vessel of God's love. I'm glad she and Barbara walked the path together.
