Here's a link

for the interview I did today on Issues, Etc. on that great hymn by Pr. Stephen Starke:  We Praise You and Acknowledge You, O God - the paraphrase of the Te Deum.

I look forward to listening to it. (I believe) my congregation likes singing it too, at least no one's told me otherwise. But I still have a fondness for TLH's Matins version.

When I first read your post, I did have a quibble because it appeared to me that Rev. Starke himself wrote the Te Deum. Rev. Starke wrote a new version of it, but we still don't know who wrote this ancient hymn.

But that's a very minor quibble. As you wrote elsewhere, you might say, "What a wonderful forest!" To which I might respond, "That's not a forest. It's just a bunch of different trees."

Blessings! (Will be cruising up and down Connecticut Ave the next couple of days. Anything I should look for?) Jeremy

If you're up in MD on Conn. and you just pass Viers Mill, look up on your right and that's Brightview and THAT'S the block my beloved wife used to live on!

Will, I just reread your post and I noticed that you mentioned that the Starke hymn was a paraphrase of the Te Deum. Forgive my quibble.

We pass that intersection all the time! We're heading to NoVa for a couple of days to take our kids to the zoo, the Mall, and some of the Memorials. My wife's grandmother lives off of Connecticut, so, like I said, we go by that intersection frequently. It's likely changed a bit. ;-)

And I'm still looking forward to what you have to share about Starke's paraphrase of the Te Deum.

The only thing better than Pr. Weedon’s homerun of an interview is the musicianship and arrangement of “We Praise You and Acknowledge You, O God” – let’s see a praise band top THAT!

It was a Home Run... A Grand Slam Home Run of an interview! I agree 100%

Thanks Anon and Scotty!

I'm still a bit uneasy about the appropriateness of "Jupiter" in worship... but I did appreciate your explanation. I'm still mulling it over.

I like your discussions; I heard another one today from last spring (recorded). But I miss the TLH Te Deum and Nunc Dimittis.

Some things they could have left alone. They weren't broke!

But Helen, in LSB, the TLH Te Deum and Nunc Dimittis are there. Granted, they updated the language of the Te Deum slightly, but the Nunc is exactly the same - at least in Matins and in DS 3.

We move from one service to another. We're in DS2 now; maybe I'll get DS3 for a Christmas gift! :)

Now that we have communion at every DS, [good] we have not sung Matins. [not so good]

(They may use it at chapel but I'm at work.)
