You know you are getting old...

...when you drive 40 minutes away for lunch, leave your computer sitting under the table at the restaurant, drive 40 minutes home, and then realize where your computer is (and then drive 40 minutes to get it and 40 minutes back home again).

I'm not one for speaking in tongues, but the response was truly:

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At least you're young enough to remember WHERE you left the computer.

Do you always take your computer to lunch? And to leave it under the table - how rude!! It's not a dog, you know.

What a nice little birthday present you gave yourself. NOT!

I hope you had a nice b-day regardless.

You know you're in a small town in the midwest when you can leave your computer for 80 minutes under a table at a restaurant and still find it. We urban southern Californians, on the other hand, can't leave our cars in a parking lot for that long with the same guarantee.

William, LOL! I actually was a tad nervous whether it would still be there. It wasn't. They'd found it and moved it to the back. But they still had it and that was what was important.

Say, you should give the Midwest a try! We even have a Seattle's Best that just opened in our new Borders - not 15 minutes away. :)

15 mins??!! Did you forget you were in the mid-west and everything is 30 mins away!?

Deb,

That's what's so cool about it! With the new "back way" through Edwardsville, and Borders sitting right on it, it really is 15 minutes to a cup of Seattle's Best.

Well, 15 minutes to get there, and then there's the LINE at the store!!!

Actually it is 18 min. David has told us this because that is how long it takes him to get to work.

I agree with mom because when I was pushed for time it took 19 minutes to get to school the back way

Hmmm. Seattle's Best in Illinois. Things have progressed considerably since I left the midwest. If you had a Peets, you'd hit coffee nirvana.

Do you guys still percholate coffee in the midwest? This method is banned in California, as the coffee produced by this method is considered toxic waste.

In Dublin they had "Golden Gate" or "West Coast" coffee. And Seattle's best is okay. . . much better than Starbucks (too much heat on their roast. . . dark does not equal burnt).

And be honest - it's not the midwest - it's that you are somewhat rural. That Laptop wouldn't have been there in most of Chicago or St. Louis. And there are parts of Rural California where the laptop would have been safe.

I'll take Peet's over them all, may Albert Peet rest in peace. Here I betray my Berkeley days. Starbucks has brought acceptable coffee to airports, and for that I'm thankful.

You're right. The Laptop would have been quite safe and sound in rural California. I'm quite confident it would have fared quite well under a table at Kitty's Cafe in Moro Bay (a slice of heaven on earth, both the cafe and the place).

Ah, but though *I* live in a rural area, lunch was in the downtown of one of Metro East's blossoming city/suburbs.

I'll have The Rev. Mr. Cwirla know that there are TWO Peet's Coffee and Tea locations in Chicagoland:

One at 1000 W. North Avenue (corner of North and Sheffield) in Chicago.

Another at 1622 Chicago Avenue in Evanston.

Next time I'm up that way (not too long from now), I'll stop and enjoy a cup.

I must say that Intelligentsia Coffee and Tea is MUCH better than Starbucks. There's a coffee shop less than a block from Millenium Station in Chicago. I can't help but stop nearly every time I'm in Chicago.
