In your book, Celebrating the Saints, you list Feb. 24 as a commemoration of St. Matthias, Apostle; however, I don't see him listed in the LSB or the LCMS Commemorations page. Could you please clarify? Thank you.

Hi, Mark. It’s right there on page xi in LSB under February 24. You see, St. Matthias is not a commemoration, but a festival.
OK, thanks. That clears it up. Curious what distinguishes Festivals from Commemorations? They seem almost identical.
Commemorations do not have liturgical propers. We merely commemorate the person or event (perhaps even in the prayer of the Church should it fall on a given day). But a festival has its full set of liturgical propers: collect, readings, and assigned proper preface.
