Readings: Jeremiah 26:1-16 / 1 Peter 1:3-9 / John 15:[12-16] 17-21
"But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me."
They may be rather obscure to us, though Church tradition does give us a little more information on these holy apostles of Christ. But they are not obscure to Him who named them apostles and sent them forth with an everlasting Gospel to proclaim. And when at last that Gospel has had its fruition in our lives, when we arrive at the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, we will be blessed to see that their names were not forgotten indeed! Inscribed on two of the twelve foundation stones of our new and forever home will be the names: Simon and Jude.
"Built on the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the chief cornerstone."
Praise, Lord, for Your apostles,
Saint Simon and Saint Jude.
One love, one hope impelled them
To tread the way, renewed.
May we with zeal as earnest
The faith of Christ maintain,
Be bound in love together,
And life eternal gain. (LSB 518, st. 28)
