The Word of God, the true light that enlightens every man, the divine hypostasis that became man in order that human beings might be partakers of the divine nature, and so divinized, is precisely the focal point of creation. -- A. C. Piepkorn, *The Church* p. 195

I'm loving the quotes by A. C. Piepkorn. Can you please remind me who he was again? I remember briefly reading about him somewhere (if I'm correct, didn't LCMS declare him a false teacher, and forcibly retire him?).
The LCMS accused the faculty of harboring false teaching, but no one accused Dr. Piepkorn of such. He refused his "honorable retirement" because he was on the faculty. Like all of us, he has strengths and weaknesses. His great strength though comes from his profound adherence to the Lutheran Symbols as he engaged in the theological endeavor. He was beyond shadow of doubt a towering figure on the faculty of CSL in the late 50's and throughout the 60's. His works were still standard references for pastors being trained even the years after the walkout - we studied his works on numerous topics.
I wonder if they're still standards for today (Piepkorn's works). His stuff sounds wonderful. Any "best of" book or collection out there?
