St. James says: "Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" (4:7). That sums up the teaching of the New Testament on spiritual warfare. It's as easy as that; it's as hard as that! Spiritual warfare calls for perpetual resistance, withstanding the attack, standing our ground, refusing to retreat from our post or to surrender to the enemy. It involves a kind of passive resistance, for it has more to do with suffering and receiving support than doing and exercising power.
