Old Lutheran Quote of the Day
Today [that would actually be tomorrow!] we celebrate the feast of our beloved Lady, the Virgin Mary, but about which the Gospel reading does not treat as anyone can well see. So one can't learn from this Gospel (Luke 10:38ff) how Mary went into heaven. And it doesn't matter much since we also don't know how any of the saints go to heaven. It is enough that we know that they live in Christ.... For here the Scriptures say clearly that Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and all believers live, and so it is important that you believe that the Mother of God lives, but how she ascended, leave that to our dear God. - Blessed Martin Luther, Sermon for the Day of the Assumption of Mary, 1522 (WA X 3:268,269)

The Virgin Mother with the moon at her feet and a crown of twelve stars.
I have always loved Dürer's work.
