Yes, it was from Luther. I was rather surprised by that too.
Guns were just coming into normal use at the time of Luther. Luther flourished during the wars of Cortez, for instance, and it is well known the Spanish had guns--though in primitive form.
Having said that, I too was surprised by the use of the word "gun".
Wouldn't you know? German were the first to get the matchlock firearm working on the field of battle, already in the early 1400s.

Go figure, the likely invention of firearms is due to the 14th century German friar, Berthold Schwarz.
