Sts. Philip and James

Today we remember and bless God for these holy apostles of Christ, the day that their relics were placed in the church that bears their name in Rome in the year 560. We know precious little for certain about them, other than that according to very early tradition they proclaimed the resurrection also by willingly accepting martyrdom. One thing is certain: their names shine upon the foundation stones of the Holy City, and we join with them in worshiping and acclaiming the Lamb!

Thanks for the reason for remembering them today. I really have come to appreciate LSB #'s: 517 & 518. The tune has quickly become familiar to the seminary community. What a joy to sing, remembering those who have gone before us!

Isn't that hymn GREAT, Sam? I appreciate the tune and the text. A sturdy military sound for singing the glories of those translated from the church militant to the church triumphant.
