Getting very excited...

...to see the finished results in St. Paul's. Walked through after early Church today before heading over to Worden. Some of the ceiling work had been begun and the painting was really beautiful. The sanctuary is going to be so amazingly improved when this whole thing is done.

qestion...you used the word "sanctuary" to describe St. Paul's designated area for worship. Is that the proper name for the entire area of a building used for worship or only for that part of the chancel area where the altar is located? IOW, what is the name that of the entire worship space? Is is "church", "sanctuary", "chapel",...?

Sanctuary refers properly to the area around the altar (bounded by Apse and rail); nave for the middle of the Church; narthex for the room just outside nave. But in common usage, the sanctuary stands in for the whole: syndoche.
