Congrats to Higher Things!

HT are now an official Recognized Service Organization of the Synod!HT are now an official Recognized Service Organization of the Synod! Maybe those who groused about it being "unofficial" will be able to see the good things this organization does as it helps form young people in the Lutheran Confession of the Christian faith.

I, on the other hand, as the ever cynical one, worry that there might be undue pressure placed upon it now. . . oh well, we shall see.

No need to fear, Pastor. RSO's are not pressured by Synod. At least, they have historically operated with a great deal of autonomy.

There is no pressure, as RSOs are, by definition, autonomous organizations. Were the Synod to exert "pressure" on an RSO, it would subvert the RSO status entirely. Bear in mind that the Synod has a vested interest in RSOs as well, to ensure that they are completely indemnified against financial and other liabilities. It is in the Synod's interests not to interfere with RSOs operations.

RSO status is nothing more (or less) than the Synod's recognition that an organization's programs are consistent with the confessional principles of the Synod. I would view it as a positive thing that Higher Things' confessional and liturgical approach to youth ministry has been recognized by the LCMS.
