Old Lutheran Quote of the Day

The sin, it is true, is wholly forgiven, but it has not been wholly purged. If the Holy Spirit is not ruling men, they become corrupt again; but the Holy Spirit must cleanse the wounds daily. Therefore this life is a hospital; the sin has really been forgiven, but it has not yet been healed. -- Blessed Martin Luther, Final Sermon at Wittenberg, 1546 (AE 51:373)

This, more than anything else I've seen, shows what a remarkable individual Luther was. Why, he was still preaching ten years after his death!
