Merry Christmas! Day Eleven
And the longer I listen to Schütz' Christmas Vespers, the more amazed I am at the word painting. When the angel tells Joseph to "steh auf! steh auf!" you almost can't stay in your seat! And the beginning of the Magnificat! Wow. I think of King George standing for the Hallelujah Chorus - he'd have JUMPED UP if he heard Schütz' Magnificat.

Too bad that the only CD (at least what I have been able to find) is no longer published by the manufacturer. I'd really like to get my hands on a copy. though, in the meantime, I do have Schutz' complete Psalmen Davids!
I downloaded from iTunes. I never buy CDs the old fashioned way anymore.
Well, personally I love CDs, if only for the liner notes. I got rid of most of my rock/metal CDs but kept the Classical ones, though everything is now downloaded on to my portable harddrive.
