We observed this festival today at the Doxology retreat in Springfield, with Matins, Vespers, and Compline.
It was a most appropriate day to sing "Amazing Grace", which we did at Compline. Other hymns included "By All Your Saints in Warfare" at Matins, "O God of Light" at Vespers, and "Christ, Mighty Savior" also at Compline.
Psalms included Psalm 119:41-50 (Waw) at Matins; Psalm 67, sung according to Luther's paraphrase "My God Bestow On Us His Grace", at Vespers; and Psalm 4, with Gerike's antiphon, at Compline.
Pastor Senkbeil preached this morning and Pastor Weiting taught this afternoon from the Large Catechism, the Third Article.
Given that it was a feast day, we sang "We Praise You and Acknowledge You, O God" for the Te Deum at Matins. The Canticle at Vespers was the Song of Hannah.
And tomorrow we get to celebrate the Lord's ministry through St. Titus! :)
