Patristic Quote for the Day

If any one, therefore, reads the Scriptures with attention, he will find in them an account of Christ, and a foreshadowing of the new calling (vocationis). For Christ is the treasure which was hid in the field, that is, in this world (for "the field is the world" ); but the treasure hid in the Scriptures is Christ, since He was pointed out by means of types and parables. -- St. Irenaeus of Lyons (Against Heresies, Book 4, Chapter 26)

Pastor Weedon,
Rich Readings indeed. How can we obtain one of those LBS Books? Also "the field is the world", Augustine says that "the field is the CHURCH IN THE world". I have a Biograppy sketch on Augustine and Dr. John Gersner says that "the field is the world" and Augustine's understanding was huge for it's time. Also he then points and puts it on the same level with Dr. Luther concerning the word "IS" in "This IS My Body". The most controverted words;back then with "the field is the world" and "This IS My Body". I'm writing all of this from memory but if I have to I will detail it all...
S.P.
Thanks for the excellence IN CHRIST
