Gem from Apocrypha

For the sins I have committed are more in number than the sand of the sea; my transgressions are multiplied, O Lord, they are multiplied! I am unworthy to look up and see the height of heaven because of the multitude of my iniquities.—Prayer of Manasseh, vs. 9.

This was one of Luther's favorite prayers. He refers to it in his early writings on confession. The whole thing is great!

This prayer is part of the Orthodox office of Great Compline.

Actually, there is a good deal of "apochrypha" in the Orthodox offices and Liturgy.
