The Lutheran fathers were well aware that immortality is not predicated univocally of God and man alike. Thus they made appeal to 1 Tim. 6:16, where we read that God "alone has immortality"; the immortality of the soul is, by way of contrast, an endowment given to the creatures made in the divine image. -- Dr. John R.
