Curious, does this have an ascription in Gerhard? It sounds like a quotation of St. Augustine.

No ascription. He quoted Augustine and every other father and his uncle about a thousand times already, though!

OK, I found this in Augustine, tractate 9 on the Gospel of St. John, section 5: “Non sapit vetus Scriptura si non Christus in ea intelligatur.” That might be it.
