Old Lutheran Quote of the Day

The Eucharist is not an end in itself; it is rather a means to participation in the life of God that we may be better able to share this life with others.  -- A.C. Piepkorn, *The Church* p. 132

Father,

Given who said it, one can only say: "But of course!"

I don’t know if you’re aware of this but AC Piepkorn had some extensive contacts with the Orthodox back in the seventies in a community very near to where you are. If you are ever interested I can give you the name of the priest, himself retired, who had some most fascinating conversations with the great Lutheran teacher.

Would it happen to be Mastrantonis?

No. Lecko, who used to be in Madison - where ACP spent some time.

Fr. Tom from Madison I've met, but not a Fr. Lecko. To be expected, I'm sure, since I'm 50 years behind the times...

He was there is the late sixties, early seventies. Lives in WI now. He used to serve at the Cathedral in Mpls when I was there. He had a lot of fascinating stories on ACP, stories that might surprise many in your community.

Well, do share!

That's information that rightly should come directly from Fr Lecko. I don't know if there are people out there doing serious critical studies of Piepkorn, but if there are they ought to speak to Fr L. He is almost eighty years old now. Once he's departed this life that slice of Piepkorn's life will depart with him.
