Opinio Legis

It is nothing short of amazing how the desire to fixate on "we did our part" - no matter how small - sticks glued to us. Only by the Holy Spirit are we given grace to cry out: "Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us but to Your name give glory, for the sake of Your steadfast love and faithfulness." (Psalm 115:1) And with Daniel the prophet: "For we do not present our pleas before You because of our righteousness, but because of Your great mercy! O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive!"

interesting post to follow your quote from Piepkorn this morning. something like avoiding the ditch on either side, eh?

Oh, I thought the Piepkorn did a supremely outstanding job of NOT seeking credit. It's truly our activity and yet we give all glory for the activity to Christ alone, who works in us "to will and to do."

It's similar to the old Bible class question about faith. When we assert that faith is 100% a gift of God, wrought in us by the Holy Spirit through the Word of promise, we're not in the least denying that WE believe, that faith is a human action. It is a human action, supernaturally wrought.

Sorry I missed your call the other day. I'm terrible about not keeping the phone with me.
