The Final Word at Good Friday Tenebrae

Stainer's "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoso believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoso believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. God so loved the world. God so loved the world. God so loved the world" [Thank you, Carlo - for suggesting it - and the quartet]

Good choice. Stainer's The Crucifixion might be just a little too Victorian for us Lutherans, but there are a couple of gems in it: "God So Loved the World" being one of them.

Another of the gems is "Cross of Jesus, Cross of Sorrow." But with all 7 stanzas--not just the 4 in LSB--including these words perfect for Good Friday:

Evermore for human failure
By His Passion we can plead;
God has borne all mortal anguish,
Surely He will know our need.

Who shall fathom that descending,
From the rainbow-circled throne,
Down to earth's most base profaning,
Dying desolate alone.

From the "Holy, Holy, Holy,
We adore Thee, O most high,"
Down to earth's blaspheming voices
And the shout of "Crucify!"
